Movie Nosh — Philomena

22 Feb

This is the first in a (perhaps ongoing) series of quick hit, capsule reviews. Not as long or filling as a full review. Just enough for a quick bite.

What: Philomena
By: writer/producer Steve Coogan, director Stephen Frears, co-writer Jeff Pope
Starring: Coogan, Dame Judi Dench
About: An Irish woman searches for the son she was forced to give up for adoption years ago, assisted in her quest by a down-and-out journalist.

How is it? Very good. I don’t generally do uplifting, which is okay because this isn’t quite as uplifting as one would expect. Coogan, generally know as a comedian, is good as the journo, and Dench shines, as usual.
