Movie Nosh – Gravity

2 Mar

What?  Gravity

By? Writer/Director Alfonso Cuaron

Starring? Sandra Bullock and George Clooney

About?  Two astronauts, on a spacewalk repairing the Hubble Telescope, are stranded in space following a storm of debris.

How is it?  Outstanding.  Not for the faint of heart, while the movie is billed as a Clooney/Bullock co-starring effort, it’s really Bullock’s show.  It’s a relatively short film, clocking in at 91 minutes, but once the tension starts, it never lets up.  Cuaron developed new ways of filming to simulate the weightlessness of outer space, and the result is a truly amazing film.  A subplot involving Bullock’s character’s life back on Earth seems almost needlessly manipulative, but that’s the only real flaw in the movie.  Okay, maybe some of the science is questionable, and China doesn’t actually have a space station, but I’m more than willing to suspend that disbelief.
